TKLS – Transport Logistics And Services, Lda -: Stevedoring Services
The role of stevedores in shipping
Our work involves the cargo operations i.e. loading and unloading of cargoes on ships.
Our stevedores have to be able to handle dock equipment, such as cranes and forklifts, safely and efficiently, and they need to be aware of emerging safety issues, including hazardous materials on board the ship and around the docks.
We typically working in a team to ensure that the process remains smooth and efficient.
Alongside our intermodal services, we also provide a number of other key logistics services including storage of loaded, empty and reefer containers and a shunt service to and from the terminal. Our specialist project team in Southampton can also undertake a wide variety of tasks for out of gauge or specialist cargos, such as lashing, container devanning and stuffing, and heavy project lift work.
We are well known as stevedore, dock worker, docker, dock labourer, wharfie or longshoreman can all have various waterfront related meanings, concerning loading and unloading of ships
